Yoselin

Hi! My name is Yoselin Lopez I am a person filled with curiosity and an a lot of interest on learning new things. I’m presently studying in university to become an engineer and I really enjoy taking time with other or with myself to appreciate nature around me.

What lessons did you learn?

I learned about self-value and this happened in two different ways. First, participating in the identity workshop allowed me to identify everything that makes me who I am making me realize how my path to where I presently am is unique just like the result of it. Second, I had the opportunity to discuss about activism and the different ways of being an activist. This enhanced my self value because I realized that activism can be shaped to fit your abilities and interests; it’s only enemy is not having the will to do something.

How can the climate community support you?

I believe that programs and workshops are beneficial ways of supporting youths as well as adults to find their voice in the community. By personal experience, these are dynamic ways of learning, sharing and building human connections which make the process a lot more enjoyable and engaging.

 Introduction

Welcome to my page!

Below you will see two main sections treating of my personal environmental vision and passions which I was able to better identify and represent thanks to the Evergreen Youth Lab workshops.

I would also like to introduce you my collage which you can see below. The collage is a visual representation of my environmental visions which are described in the first section below.

 Visions

My environmental vision is the future that I imagine living in if environmentally, there wasn’t a climate crisis.

Therefore, my vision with respect to nature is that of a future where people have learned to peacefully cohabit with other living things. As you can see in my collage, I wanted to include pictures of animals, plants and humans as a way of showing that everyone deserves a place, and everything is equally valuable. You will notice as well that there are pictures of cities and wind turbines. These pictures represent development. Therefore, I picture development in my future but not one that compromises other’s ability to live.

Lastly, my vision includes another important aspect: next generation’s future. I purposely used children’s pictures on my collage to represent how I envision a future where children can live without struggling to have access to essential resources like clean air and water, a future where they can grow and develop to elderly ages as well as a future where they become the person they want to be. In other words, I imagine a future where people aren’t concerned about raising a family because they can’t guarantee their children’s future.

 Passions

My environmental passions are the actions or thoughts that I perform with respect to environmental and which give a feeling of fulfillment.

I absolutely love nature and I believe that anything related to it is a passion for me. In other words, learning about it is a passion. Talking about it is a passion. Enjoying the view of it is a passion. Fighting for it is a passion.

This passion became a lot clearer after joining the C-Vert program in the YMCA of my neighborhood in 2017. Since then, I have learned so much about nature but also about myself.  Thus, I discovered something that I now consider a valuable cause and something that standing for is fulfilling. In other words, I was shown something that I could live my live for because it resonates with my values and the hopeful vision of my successors enjoying a life in this planet.

This passion, however, comes with a lot of fear because no matter the way I approach the thought of nature, something in the back of my head reminds me that nature isn’t immortal and if nothing changes, it could vanish during my lifetime. Fear won’t leave soon but, on the other hand, my thrive stays stronger.

 Acknowledgment

I would like to thank Evergreen Youth Lab as well as C-vert program for giving me a safe place where to share about this passionating subject that is environment.

Thanks as well to Black Eco Bloom for sharing their story and creating a welcoming space for future environmental leaders.

Finally, I would like to thank the other participants without whom the workshops and this overall journey wouldn’t have been possible.
